Endodontic Treatment
Root Canal Therapy
What is Root Canal Therapy?
Root canal therapy becomes necessary when tooth decay is left untreated or when the tooth is severely damaged by trauma or infection. This can lead to inflammation of the dental pulp, a condition known as pulpitis. Pulpitis can manifest as acute pain requiring immediate dental attention, or it may progress chronically, with no symptoms while the tooth silently deteriorates.
Why is Endodontic Treatment Important?
Without proper endodontic treatment, an infection in the pulp can spread through the root system to the surrounding bone tissue, potentially leading to abscess formation. This condition, medically referred to as periodontitis, can persist unnoticed for an extended period, posing a significant health risk to both the affected tooth and overall dental health. Left untreated, such infections can escalate into acute complications, including severe pain, swelling, and a deterioration in general health, often resulting in the need for tooth extraction.
