Tooth Extraction and Implantology

What is Tooth Extraction?

Tooth extraction is a procedure that may be necessary for various reasons. The most common reasons include:

  • Tooth destruction due to decay
  • Trauma or damage to the tooth
  • Inability to treat root canals due to infection
  • Periodontitis and other diseases

At our dental clinic, we perform extractions using effective local anesthesia, so you won’t feel any pain during the procedure.

How Does Tooth Extraction Work?

  • Simple Extractions: In these cases, no special measures are required. The patient must follow a resting regime for about 3 days.
  • Complicated Extractions: If a more extensive surgical procedure is needed, such as a surgical extraction of wisdom teeth, the healing time may be longer, but recovery generally proceeds without complications.

Implantology

After the loss of one or more teeth, an implant (artificial root) can be placed. The treating dentist and implantologist will create a comprehensive treatment plan for both the aesthetic and functional restoration of your smile.

The entire process is painless, and initial healing typically takes about 1 week without complications.

Dental Implants

At our dental clinic, we collaborate with an experienced oral surgeon (MDDr. Hynek Kříž) to offer high-quality implantology services. Implants are an excellent choice for replacing missing teeth because they mimic the natural transmission of chewing pressure.

How It Works?

  1. Implant Placement: A titanium screw is inserted into the bone under local anesthesia and then covered by the gum.
  2. Healing: After about 4 months of healing, the implant is uncovered and the gum is shaped around it to preserve the natural appearance of the original tooth.
  3. Final Adjustment: A ceramic crown is placed on the implant, which looks indistinguishable from your natural teeth.

Benefits of Implants

  • Aesthetic: They look like natural teeth.
  • Functionality: They provide stability and comfort while chewing.
  • Attachment Options: You can also attach a fixed bridge or full denture to the implants.

Factors Affecting Implant Success

The main limiting factors include:

  • Smoking
  • Immune diseases
  • Poor oral hygiene
  • Insufficient bone volume

The implantologist evaluates these risks during a thorough examination and assessment of 3D X-ray images. Even in cases of insufficient bone, the issue can be resolved with augmentation—a process to replace or add bone for the successful placement of an implant.
